Overview

The White Bear is a wordless picture book.

Book Intro

(English) A Polar Bear

A white bear who has escaped from the zoo embarks on a journey to find his identity.
A Polar Bear portrays a white bear's journey to find his identity after escaping from the zoo. It depicts the bear's courageous struggle to find the meaning of life. Calm and refreshing illustrations with elaborate details will guide readers into a fantasy world. Although the bear faces some difficulties, he does not give up and keeps making efforts to achieve what he wants and manages to find peace in the Arctic, his hometown. His journey will make readers reflect on themselves and find their new identities.
The book blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination and focuses on the path the bear takes while the author's exquisite and detailed descriptions capture the eyes of readers. Not only children but also the whole family will be able to find pleasure in this book by interpreting the wordless illustrations based on their imaginations. Some readers may become the white bear themselves and exercise their imaginations while talking with him and cheering him up. When the white bear gets lost and wanders around without being able to get along with humans, they may look at him with sympathy. When the bear finally goes back to the Arctic and lives a happy life, readers will breathe a sigh of relief. Wordless picture books are good for children to develop their imaginations and creativity as these books provide them with opportunities to interpret the story based on only illustrations and to read the book from a new perspective.
A Polar Bear also carries a deep message on the coexistence between animals and humans with fantastic stories that move freely across the boundaries of reality and imagination just like in films. The book will lead you to think of life in the Arctic and find ways for humans and animals to live together in harmony.

(Russian)
