Book Intro

A broadcast writer must know how to write a script, of course, but they must also know the various processes required prior to writing the script as well as the methods of storytelling. For those dreaming of becoming a scriptwriter, these are big obstacles to face. This book explains what broadcast contents are to students studying broadcasting while attempting be a guide for those who wish to enter the broadcast industry.

The book explains why storytelling is critical, in particular, in educational and cultural programs, what the core of such programs is, and what power storytelling has in terms of building a complete program. It also explains why a plot is critical for education and cultural programs, and presents the principles of storytelling, concept development and content planning. 

The genres this book introduces are entertainment programs, documentaries and radio programs. In the case of entertainment, the book further classifies programs into reality shows, talk shows, comedy programs and sitcoms to help learners systematically develop a broadcast script. 

Documentaries are classified into exploration, planned, human, history and nature, and their basic concepts are defined and key characteristics are introduced to establish the necessary storytelling methods required in producing a documentary. 

The radio program section introduces the characteristics of radio script writing and the unique features of radio writing. It presents an easy way to become a radio script writer, which is generally considered difficult.

About the Author

Jeung Sook



Jeung Sook (F) debuted in MBS' 2nd scriptwriter audition in 1986, and began her broadcast scriptwriting career with the 1st comedy writer audition of KBS. For 20 years she wrote for shows, games, comedies, entertainment, radio and comprehensive programs. She has won the KBS Comedy Writer Award and Program Award. She is currently a member of the Korea Radio & TV Writers Association and a professor at the Hanyang Women's University. Books she has written include This Is How You Write Fun Show Programs (2008), Broadcasting Script Writing Practice (2009), Drama Script Practice (2010) and Communicate with Storytelling (2011).
