Overview

What makes men miserable is not feminism! This book introduces the history of manhood in order to better address gender issues.

Book Intro

Critic Choi Taeseob presented a new perspective on Korean society with humor and honesty in his works Surplus Society and The Country of the Victimized. His latest book introduces how men are viewed in Korean society and what role they have. Through the lenses of the military draft, the labor force and the IMF crisis, this book takes a close look at how men underwent hardships and during the process, how they also became victimized, in an attempt to better understand the manhood of Koreans. This book details how the ideal portrait of men has changed over different periods, how this portrait prevented the ideal from ever being realized, and how Korean men have responded. In addition, the book looks at how women, who are wrongly accused as the reason for men's failures, tried to understand and overcome their situation. This book is a must-read book for people who want to break free from the patriarchism that has victimized everyone and to learn how to connect with and care about others.
