The picture book teaches the growth of the mind and body together.
The protagonist of Loving Hair is envious of her parents. Mom can swim well without fear of the deep water and knows how to bake great tasting bread. Dad can lift heavy dog food packs and drive big trucks easily. But what about her? She has difficulty trying to ride a bicycle with a dog, and even with a fully inflated tube, water is still scary. How can mom and dad do everything so well, while she has so many difficulties?
Then, the child discovers some strange hairs hidden on mom and dad. Dad's arm pit hair reminds her of a gorilla, and mom's arm pit hair reminds her of a duck. Is the reason that dad is so strong because he's part gorilla? Is mom agile because she's part duck? There must be hidden reason why dad can drive a truck well and mom can bake great-tasting bread. The child’s curiosity does not stop. With this in mind, the child finds various animals in the bodies of mom and dad. Loving Hair depicts the process of a child growing into an adult through an interesting theme, hair. It introduces the physical changes children go through as they grow into adults through cute characters.
Loving Hair tells children, “Yes, we understand what you think. You will soon become a great adult.” It will be a great answer to children who ask when they will become an adult. It is sure that a reader would feel the adoring eyes and guiding hands of the writer. With Loving Hair, the writer hopes more children will develop the belief that they will become a great adult.
