At night, when the heat of the sun cools down and the moon comes up, animals start to gather around a waterhole in Africa. The parade of thirsty animals never stops. A natural sight, uninterrupted by humans. The camera is set at a far distance, as though filming a documentary. This extraordinary view in the middle of the night touches our hearts. In the quiet night, a bird flies down first. Next, three elephants appear, one after another. They have come to drink the water. There is a giraffe in the far distance. Rhinoceroses and warthogs come. The giraffe still doesn’t come near. When a hyena approaches, the elephants flap their ears and swings their trunks to threaten it away. Only then does the sensitive giraffe approach the waterhole. With an innate sense for the presence of one another, the animals naturally give and receive help in the struggle to survive. The next day, after the peaceful time has passed, the bird says that the lions visited deep in the night after all the other animals went away. The world of the animals that we see on this day, a very usual day, is amazing. They stay together at the waterhole in the quiet night without harming anybody, as if they have some kind of implicit agreement. They are fully aware of each other’s habits: this is, perhaps, the basis of their coexistence. All elements in this book are designed to fully immerse readers at the very moment of reading, as if inviting them into an exotic, quiet night, away from the bright city. The author tried to include all the emotions he experienced at the Etosha National Park, Namibia, Africa. He completed this work by cutting and stacking different colors of paper that he had collected. Readers can let go of all their worries about the mundane world when unseen things tell more stories than what is seen, or when they come across a wonder unexplainable with words. This story, which circled around the author’s heart and his fingertips for a long time, has finally arrived to us, busy city dwellers.
