This book was designed so that preschoolers can easily understand famous great men included in elementary school textbooks with more joy. While helping with school studies by telling the stories of great men included in the elementary school curriculum, the stories were simplified to be in line with the reading level of children experiencing biographies for the first time. Major incidents and achievements are written lyrically and concisely in a storytelling format. They are not formal, wordy chronicles, so children can read the biographies pleasantly. Whenever children see the names of great men in their textbooks, they are curious about what made them so special. Famous Biographies for Kids "Scientist Jang Yeongsil", one book in the preschool series on great Korean men, sends a short but strong message to children who have such curiosity. They may laugh at how similar they are to Jang Yeongsil when he was young and they may imagine their dreams in detail after seeing how he achieved his. This book reveals anecdotes that show how extraordinary his character was since childhood, as well as some funny childhood stories unknown until now. Jang Yeongsil was born as the son of a servant in the Joseon dynasty, which had a distinct caste system. He was very talented in science since childhood and even became a high-ranking government official, overcoming his birth status. Jang Yeongsil’s scientific ingeniousness can be understood more deeply through the interesting process of how he invented the Angbu Ilgul (sun clock) and the Jagyeongnu (water clock). The book describes both the childhood of Jang Yeongsil, the famous Korean scientist, and his features as a great man.
